Nintendo DS Console

After dominating the handheld video game market for over a decade with the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance, Nintendo diverges from its winning brand with the Nintendo DS. First announced in spring of 2004 and launched simultaneously in Japan and North America in near November of that year, the Nintendo DS is based on an unusual design that suggests possibilities of innovative player interfaces and new styles of gameplay. The most prominent feature of the DS, or “Dual Screen,” is its two backlit display screens.
The rectangular Nintendo DS is about the same size and shape as a contemporary PDA. It has a clamshell design, with a conventional display screen above, centered on the inside of the lid, and a touchsensitive screen, which can be used for both display and control, on the bottom of the unit. The two screens are aligned, one directly above the other, when the Nintendo DS is opened for use. Both screens are about three inches measured diagonally, comparable in size to the screen on a Game Boy Advance.
Games for the Nintendo DS are stored and sold on DS cartridges, which are similar in size to the flash memory cards used in digital cameras and PDAs; considerably smaller than Nintendo’s previous handheld media formats. The DS is backwardcompatible, however, and can also play the sinlgeplayer modes of nearly all existing GBA games. The device features two separate cartridge slots to accommodate the two media formats. Game Boy cartridges fit in a slot on the bottom of the handheld, and Nintendo DS game cards go in a slot on the top.
The control buttons of the Nintendo DS are somewhat similar to those of a Super NES. A crossshaped Dpad is to the left of the bottom screen and four action buttons “A,” “B,” “X,” and “Y” are arranged in a diamond to the right. In games that support the distinguishing dual screen design, the bottom display may also be a primary means of control. The touchsensitive screen can be used with a precision stylus that comes with the handheld, or simply with the player’s fingers and thumbs. The Nintendo DS also has two shoulder buttons.
The overall performance power of the Nintendo DS has been equated to that of the Nintendo 64 console. The handheld is designed to produce audio, video, and 3D rendering of speed and quality comparable to the late1990s console. The DS supports both IEEE 802.11 and a proprietary format of wireless connectivity, allowing two or more players to join in multiplayer DS games without a physical “link cable” connection. The handheld also features a headphone jack (unlike its GBA SP predecessor) and microphone input for voicerecognition functions. A builtin, rechargeable battery provides an estimated 10 hours of gameplay. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide

Im sitting here reading the negative reviews of people who OBVIOUSLY don't own this system. First off, a short battery life? 10 hours on one charge is short? Guess PSP's 2 hour battery life is a much better option.
Secondly, the other guy said "the screen is too small." The SCREEN, meaning ONE right? Again, you obviously don't have nor have you ever SEEN this unit. It has TWO 3inch screens and what do you expect from a "PORTABLE" unit? Guess you'd like to see a nice 36 inch screen on a handheld, right?
Look, I was the first person to buy one in Georgia and I've lost a LOT of sleep because of it. The graphics and 3D capabilities are AMAZING! The touch screen is what handhelds have been missing. This unit is all around fun and I'm just waiting on more games. I have Spiderman 2, Super Mario DS, the Metroid Demo, and Madden 2005 currently.
And honestly, I feel like we're getting over. Nintendo could have easily sold these things for $250. But at $150, if you don't buy one of these, you're crazy.
Pro : Everything
Con : None!
All I have to say is "Wow." This system is the best yet in my opinion. There is so much capability here it is almost limitless. It has more features than any system yet and is sure to out-sell the upcoming PSP by far.
Pro : To many to name…
Con : Can't think of any
This system is awosome. Its just like a portable game cube. i dont no much about it execpt for that you can talk through other people that have 1. Even all the way around the world! i played it at walmart in W.Lafayette. i played it for 5 minutes then when i got home i already reserved 1. I bet you that if you played it you would love it 2. My favorite feature is that it has 2 screens and on top of that the bottom screen is TOUCH SENSITIVE. and it is also 3D.and unlike the gbasp it has a real head phone jack. and its sound effects are off the hook. You can also keep your daily needs on it like a calendar and a clock. Now i know your proably saying' But that means we would haft to keep it on all the time'
But it has a solar power back up battery. So all you need to do is put it in the sunlight for five minutes with the cover down and it has enough power already to last its clock and calendar for 48 hours. Now for you people that are saying yeah but how many times can it rcharge? Well to answer that question it has a new lithium battery that can recharge UNLIMITED TIMES until you find a game that is real hard and you slam it on the ground and break it.Now i only read 1 page out of 13 and got all of this so it can do a tons more like it has a BUILT WIRELESS connection so you can play multi player with no phyiscal activiy. When you buy it it will already have metroid hunter with it. SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR GO AND BUY OR RESEVE ONE ………………NOOWWW
Pro : COOL
Con : WOW
Okay, basically, the DS is the coolest handheld ever! Has many features, fun games, and innovative features (wait, I said that already, haven't I?)!
Here's the features:
o Two Screens. Comes with Stylus (because lower screen is touch-screen!)
o It folds (think GBA SP)
o Stereo sound (the gameboy advances looked like the had mono sound).
o Wireless abilities. Most games support 4 to 8 players, but some may be able to support up to 16.
NOTE: Some other reviewer said you could use Pictochat to communicate with people around the world; that's wrong. It uses Wi-Fi technology to communicate up to 65 feet (which is pretty good).
o 3d Graphics. As good (or better) as the N64's 3d graphics, which is good! As good as several of the other newer handhelds have graphics just this good (PSP, NGage).
o Re-Charge-able battery.
o It comes with a free demo of "Metroid Prime: Hunters"! Great FPS game, with 3 singleplayer levels and 3 multiplayer levels! (NOTE: I think it only comes with this for a limited time…)
o Plays any existing GameBoy, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance, game! (And of course its own games!)
Pro : Touch screen, stereo, wireless, two screens, 3d graphics, re-chargeable battery, compatibility with older games…
Con : It's $150. That's the only one I can think of…
first let me state who ever said "if you liek violent first person shooter games get a psp" is an idiot, he must not have heard about goldeneye rogue agent and metroid prime hunters,w chih i may state goes online for free. second this system is great in all aspects. i have been gaming sicne i was three so i think i know what im talking about also considering i maek video games. The two screens is a fresh look on the horizion of new ways of playing games. the wirelss makes for multiplayer mayhem, the touch screen makes for intuitive controls, stereo sound, and cutting edge graphix for a handheld. in my opinion the nintendso ds cant be beat and i have played the psp and have one, so again i know what im talking about
Pro : wifi
Con : have to wait too long for online
This is the best heanheld ever, created by the people who started the entire portable gaming industry! The backlit screens are amazing and even better that the gba sp's! The speakers allow for virtual surrond sound that really has to be heard to be believed. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoy any video games.
Pro : Backlit Touchscreen, Sound, online wifi capabilities
Con : none
I received the DS for Christmas of 05 and I am very happy with it. At first I thought that it was mostly geard for the kids but I am 26 and I find that the DS is the most quality handheld gaming machine that Nintendo has released yet. Mario Kart DS, Castlevania and Advanced Wars are in my opinion the games to get for the system and I have enjoyed these titles far more than any on the PSP ( which I own as well)so far.
The only problem I have with the system is that I get finger cramps on long play sessions. If Nintendo released larger sized DS's for the adults, that would be sweet!
Pro : Graphics, sound and game selection
Con : a little too small for my big hands
This system's graphics is like the N64 and the games are remakes as well, but better and much more fun. The touch pad is awesome! This machine is pretty much for all ages, while some think the DS is only for kids, but I'm 27 and I still enjoy it alot.
Pro : Games are fun, touch pad, Addictive, $120 cheaper than PSP
Con : buttons are too small, not whole lot of games out, have to wait long for good games 2 arrive
I can't believe it first the gameboy systems like GBA, GBA SP and now the nintemdo DS that's very crazy! I won't get that till it is lowered down….
Pro : 200
Con : 234
i own oth a psp and a ds. now i like the psp a little bit better because of the wifi the movies music the way t looks just about everything about. now the ds is also preety cool. the touch screen and thats about it. but i am not saying its horrible super mario ds is an amazing game. but the lack of wifi is just rediclous. 60 feet common the psp is global and they will make the psp also a cell-phone. over all the psp is better but the ds isnt bad.
Pro : the touch screen, and the cool pictochat
Con : the lack of graphics, 65 feet of wifi features
